Led by Dr Martin Widmann (University of Birmingham). Co-investigators include: Dr.  J. Sanjay (IITM); Dr K.P. Sooraj (IITM); Dr. E.N.Rajagopa (NCMRWF); Dr. A. Mitra (NCMRWF); Prof.  A. Karumuri, (University Hyderabad); Dr A. Orr (BAS); Prof. D. Hannah (Univ. Birmingham); Dr. A. Van Loon (Univ. Birmingham); Miss Rhiannon Blake (University of Birmingham).

This activity will assess the significant issues for hydro-climatic modelling and service development in the mountain regions of northern India. It will provide a comprehensive review of the relevant scientific literature, of current modelling capabilities, as well as of the availability of meteorological and hydrological observations. Capabilities and challenges will be analysed for short-term forecasts, for seasonal forecasts and for climate predictions. Issues related to predicting the large-scale weather and climate, to downscaling and bias-correcting to regional and local scales, and to hydrological modelling will be considered.
