The exchange aimed at building research collaborations and expanding scientific networks to exploit complementarities between the lead’s research on the ecological & social impacts of dams and their overall governance, and the work being done as a part of GCRF: Dams 2.0 project led by Global Development Institute, University of Manchester. The project involved an integrated assessment of dams by modelling trade-offs between water-energy-food-environment. India is a secondary named case study for the FutureDams project, although the exact field site is yet to be identified. Hence, the aims of this project were to:

  • Collaborate with investigators of GCRF: Dams 2.0 project at Global Development Institute and CEH to develop a framework for mapping tradeoffs between agriculture-ecology-hydrology in a river basin;
  • Share experience of environmental governance processes on dam construction and operation in India; and
  • Develop a long-term collaboration with Future Dams researchers
