Scientific challenge

The India-UK Water Centre (IUKWC) was established in 2016 to promote cooperation and collaboration between NERC-MoES water security research in order to establish a platform for, and legacy of, long-term partnerships and dialogue between Indian and UK water researchers, water policy-makers and water businesses. The Centre was decommissioned effective October 1, 2020. This is now a legacy website and as such is not updated.

Project overview

The India-UK Water Centre was hosted jointly by UK Centre for Ecology & Hydrology and the Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM) on behalf of NERC and MoES. The Centre was led by a Management Board and supported by a Joint Secretariat based at UKCEH and IITM.

The India-UK Water Centre hosted a number of activities that were initiated from the wider Indian-UK water research community and delivered with support from the IUKWC. The activities were open to all members of the Open Network to participate, and some were also open to the public. Although it was envisioned that members of both academia and policy/practice/management would participate, the activities did have a slant towards one or the other group in order to meet the Centre’s aims.

Linking Academics: The IUKWC supported a range of activities that were targeted at enhancing interaction, discussion, and the building of collaborative research projects between Indian and UK water researchers. These activities included Workshops, Webinars, Researcher Exchanges, and Short-term Pilot Projects.

Linking All Stakeholders: In order to promote the concepts of co-design and co-creation, the IUKWC facilitated specific events that brought together academics and stakeholders from grass-roots levels to state and national levels to discuss, share ideas and learn from one another. The ultimate goal was to enable collaborations that could lead to more science outputs that support policy- and decision-making.

Publications: At least two types of publications were developed following IUKWC Activities (except Webinars). These can be accessed via the activities listed on the Project Menu to the right of this page
